Enough Excuses: Why You Can Afford CrossFit

Enough Excuses: Why You Can Afford CrossFit

A couple of weeks ago I posted about one of the two most common objects we hear in embarking on a new fitness routine. That post focused on “not having time” to workout (missed it? Read it here). This post focuses on the other, “I can’t afford to eat healthily” or “CrossFit is so expensive”.

Remember when I called B.S. on that not having time excuse? Well, I’ll let you guess what I’m going to say about this EXUCSE….go on, I’ll wait….yeah, it’s B.S.!

Now, before you slam your MacBook closed and pick up your iPhone and call your mom about how insulted you are about that, let me explain.

This post isn’t about telling you how to spend your money, it is a plea to prioritize YOU!

I’m not interested in telling you that you should get rid of HBO and stop drinking Starbucks so you can afford CrossFit. Those posts have already been written and frankly, I like Game of Thrones & americanos too so that would be hypocritical.

What I am trying to get you to see is that, according to diabetes.org, “people with diagnosed diabetes incur average medical expenditures of about $13,700 per year, of which about $7,900 is attributed to diabetes.” If we break that down monthly, that is $1,141.66 and $658.33 respectively!

Now which one is more expensive… the $130 a month CrossFit membership or the $658.33 spent on a chronic disease that, like many others, can be managed through proper diet and exercise?

What I am trying to get you to see is that an unhealthy lifestyle, be it a cheap diet or that $10 gym membership are not actually saving you money!

Yes, you pay for that membership which gets you a pretty key tag that you get to carry around to so you can tell yourself you have a gym membership….but don’t actually go (I write about that here).

Listen, I am NOT judging you, I know they set alarms off for those things, because I have been there.

It’s their business plan! Find an amount of money people won’t miss too much to be bothered with the laundry list of things you have to do to not pay said $10 anymore.

Are they taking the time to send you an email urging you to improve your health? No, they are sending another promotion or a reminder about the weekly pizza night….hmmm.

Often times people think that eating healthy is expensive. I totally understand why, too. When looking at the small picture those boxed “helper” dinners seem cheap and easy! Making better choices can be too, you just need to know where to start. Zoom out a little bit, would you rather be spending that money on some good, fresh, food or medications?

Like I said in my last post, we can be our own worst enemy when it comes to change, because we resist it. We are creatures of comfort, but trust and believe there is nothing more uncomfortable than chronic disease.

And did I mention how expensive it is?

When you make choices to spend money on better food choices or a CrossFit membership they are not simply an exchange of money for goods or services. You are making an investment in you, in your spouse, in your kids, in your future.

Stop making excuses.

Invest in you!

I would love to talk to your goals and how we can help you get there during one of our No Sweat Intros.
